Activities around the area include the following:
• Wilson, and Jackson, Wy.—are 30 to 45 minutes respectively from camp and are truly fun and entertaining ‘western’ towns.
• Yellowstone National Park — 90 minutes from camp. The drive to Yellowstone from camp is gorgeous and passes through the Teton Valley with views of the Teton Mountains most of the trip.
A stop at Criswell’s Restaurant in Ashton, Idaho along the way to Yellowstone’s Northwest Gate is a must. Eggs and fresh trout for breakfast. The wildlife in Yellowstone is unparalleled as are the thermal features throughout the park.
•Teton National Park — 1 hour from Barley Creek Camp, traveling through Jackson, WY to get there. This is a truly spectacular park with lakes, all forms of boating, endless hiking, wildlife, restaurants, hotels, camping and indescribable views of the Tetons.
• Hiking – can be found just about anywhere, anytime – in Teton Valley, the National Parks, from our driveway. The possibilities are endless.
• Exploring the Teton Valley — on the Idaho side. The valley in which Driggs is located is a rich agricultural area (barley, wheat). With the Teton Mountains to the east and the Big Hole Mountains to the west, Teton Valley’s rolling hills, waving fields of grain and the magnificent Teton River offers unrivaled hiking, biking, fishing, canoeing and kayaking. Don’t miss a drive up Ski Hill Road to Grand Targhee, where the chairlift offers breathtaking views of the Tetons up close and personal as well as numerous music events/festivals throughout the summer. Also visit the close-by towns of Driggs and Victor and choose from a number of great
and colorful stores and restaurants. Nearby Swan Valley offers some great fly fishing and a wonderful restaurant riverside.
•Mountain biking — both around camp and at the local ski resort, Grand Targhee, with miles of trails on the mountain. Bikes can be rented from a number of locations in Driggs on a daily or weekly basis. Some claim that the Big Hole Mountains have some of the best mountain biking in the country!
• Grand Targhee Ski Resort — with a chair lift to the top of the mountain, complete with dramatic and close views of the Teton Mountains. Other activities at the resort: hiking and biking trails, horse back riding, rock climbing wall.
• Fly fishing — people come from around the country and the world to Driggs to fish the Teton River. Excellent fishing is just two miles from camp on the Teton River or nearby on the Snake River. Equipment and licenses can be purchased (rented) from a number of outfitters in Driggs, and guides can be hired.
• Hot-air ballooning — In Driggs. Early morning rides start on the south side of Driggs, and the rides come right over Barley Creek Camp.
• Gliding — out of Driggs Airport. Experienced pilots will take you up into the Teton Mountains for a breathtaking ride.
• Horse pack and wagon train trips — can be arranged through one of several outfitters, either out of Driggs or Jackson Hole. Day rides or several nights, depending upon your preference.
• White-water rafting/kayaking — several companies run river trips on the Snake River out of Jackson Hole.
• Rock climbing — through outfitters in Jackson and Teton National Park, including one of the world’s most renowned outfitters,
Exum Mountain Guides. Rock climbing includes day trips or 3-day trips which include a summit attempt on the Grand Teton.
• The Spud Theater — Driggs’ internationally renowned outdoor drive-in theater. A great photo opportunity at the least…
• Photography – a photographer’s paradise. There are endless sunrise to sunset shots awaiting. You must document the beauty – and maybe your friends!
• Hanging out at camp—John’s favorite. It’s hard to get him out of the camp, especially during
sunset time. Wildlife is all around—as is the quiet.
